Mitch Barnhart Can Fix UK Football? - WDRB 41 Louisville

BOZICH: Who Thinks Mitch Barnhart Can Fix UK Football?

"Kentucky football has always looked at itself as if it's pre-ordained to be horse(feathers)," said Howard Schnellenberger, the former UK all-American who led the football renaissance at U of L nearly three decades ago.
"They need to create a culture where they actually start believing they can be more than what they have been."
Kentucky doesn't simply have a coaching problem. Kentucky has an athletic culture problem – and the guy who hasn't done much to change the culture has been on the job for 11 seasons. That's Barnhart.
During the Barnhart Era, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt have lapped the Wildcats.

Trade Dead, Sanchez is the new Tony Romo

It looks like Rex Ryan will be hanging on to the most ill used offensive weapon on the Jets roster. Any chance of a trade is quickly fading and Ryan has stated that he wants more "Tebow" on the field. So far this year the Jets have used Tebow in spits and spurts with no semblance of a plan. Spagano has even pulled Tebow inside the 5 yard line so Sanchez can try to pass the ball in for six points. Not one single time has Sanchez managed much more than a Field Goal.

Simply put "Tebow Time" is a mindset and attitude on the field that becomes infectious to not just the offense but the entire team. TT needs time to grow, build trust and inject a winning attitude. Spagano's limited Wildcat Offense is not "Tebow Time". What Spagano is doing is paying lip service to the owner of the team who wants Tebow on the field. The man paid over $4 million dollars for Tebow's services and deserves to get what he wanted out of the deal. A Field General that can push the NY Jets over the top.

Unless New York wants 5 more years of Sanchez doing his best Tony Romo impression fans really need to wake up and push the issue.

Is Tim Tebow improving?

Tebow says he is improving

Tim Tebow said he believes he is improving in practice and can become a successful starting quarterback again someday in the NFL. Tebow did a one-on-one sitdown with the New York Daily News and was typical Tebow. There weren't any controversial moments and he professed his support for current starter Mark Sanchez among the topics discussed. “I’m working on a lot of things and feeling like I’m getting better. Looking forward to one day being able to show some of those things... You never know for me. My role, it could expand,” Tebow said of working to improve. About the closest thing Tebow said toward anything controversial was his remark that the Jets have had a history of too much talk. Hard to argue that point, Tim. “We’ve had a history here of people talking too much. You just don’t want to do that," Tebow said.

Texans doom Sanchez, Tebow-Time coming soon......

I have to admit that the entire NFL community of analysts are correct when they point out Tim Tebow's flaws as an NFL Quarterback. However, even the inventor of the QBR rankings has to surrender to the fact that Tebow brings something 'intangible' to a football team. Even the silliest Tebow-maniacs know in their heart of hearts that Tebow is only a temporary patch for the the NY Jets. Rex Ryan has been leaning towards Tebow-time while giving Sanchez every chance to wake up and lead. Rex even put Tim in to get the anemic Jets onto the 3 yard line and still Mark could not punch it in.

Sanchez has greatness in him but I don't think it is going to come into its own in New York. He is Step-Brother to Eli Manning and Hamlet to Tim Tebow in the New York media circus. Sanchez needs.... requires a strong offensive coordinator, a talented receivers, a running game and 5 second pass blocking. That will not happen under Spagano and the injury plagued Jets offense. Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez sit on a major Decision Point according to Michael Smith on "Numbers Never Lie". Give it a watch.

NFL Fantasy Report, Week #2: The IF Lists

Hernandez is Out, Welker is BACK BABY!!!!
We can only refer to this week as "The IFS". Since all I heard all weekend was "If only I knew" or "Were is so and so...?"
Fantasy Football League's finished 1-2.
Semi-Serious and casual fantasy football owners are all in shock as the five year string of dominance by the top ten performers at each position came to an early conclusion. In performance drops that usually begin to happen around the time teams are mathematically eliminated from the play offs and contract bonus money is in the bank left all but the most serious fantasy footballers dazed and confused. All the experts said pick this guy or drop that Defense but nobody could predict this last weekend.
My TOP "IF" Lists of the week:
In a week that saw Peyton Manning Intercepted three times in the first quarter, little brother Eli set game scoring records in just the fourth quarter, New England losing to the Arizona Cardinals and RG3 putting out 36 fantasy points while losing there plenty of "IFS".
If you benched Andrew Luck (like I did) that was a major screw up.
If Adrian Peterson was your feature back.
If Hernandez had not gotten injured......
If Mr G made his fifth 40 yard field goal of the game to win it in Foxboro.
If the college trained Replacement Referees could come to an agreement on "Pass Interference", "Game Administration" and "Forward Progress".
If the Packers offense could get back into gear. (Yes, I know they won but it was ugly).
Head Coach Notes:
If the Harbaugh brothers don't start getting some respect.......
If the New Orleans had a Head Coach.......
If Tampa Bay's Head Coach wasn't a giant douche bag then Tom Coughlin would not be pissed.
If Kansas City would just perform to potential.
If Rex Ryan would just go ahead and swap Tebow for Sanchez. He knows he is going to do it and Mark looked like his old, flat, unmotivated self while losing a yawner.
Quarterback Notes:
If Josh Wheedon played that well every game.
If Jay Cutler wants to get his team to hate him don't change a thing about what you do, say or hit.
If RGIII would let someone else run the ball.
If Cam Newton would let someone else run the ball.
If Mike Vick would let someone else run the ball.
NOTE: Guys this is not high school AAAA football. It is OK to hand it off once in awhile. Those guys get payed a whole lot of money to run the ball and the have to feed their families on their performance bonuses. Trust them or you might start getting blindsided by that blitzing linebacker he was supposed to pick up.
NFL League Notes:
If New Orleans Saint Line Backer Vilma would just quit the "Poor Me" circus.
If you don't think the Ref Lock Out is not impacting the pacing and flow of games ask Flacco, Ryan or Cutler.
If the commissioner wants the NFL to grow then give LA, Mexico City, Toronto and London franchises no matter the cost.

All fantasy football team owners should start checking the injury reports, analyze their match ups and check their Waiver wire positions before clicking SUBMIT.

Any comments on this week's rant?

Fantasy Report for NFL Week #1

Sanchez and Tebow Celebrate a TD
Despite some really strange Running Back performances out of Tampa Bay and Cam Newton's Panthers, failing to move Adrian Peterson from the Bench to Active and forgetting to click submit on my Defense selections. I finished the week 3-0 in my fantasy leagues. This despite throwing up just enough fantasy points to squeak by in each league.

Many thanks to Peyton Manning for throwing to Decker, the Patriots defense and Billy Cundiff kicking the ball clear out of Fedex field. The Tim Tebow Soap Opera had two of my opponents benching Sanchez and Romo's Cowboys took down the Giants to blow the lid off my competition's rosters. Now I get middle of the pack waiver rights and hope pick up a few mid season sleepers without having to duke out a trade. In one league I am sitting on Flacco and Vick for no other purpose than trade leverage down the line.

Officiating: The replacement officials seemed to do pretty well with only a few iffy calls that were caught by Booth Reviews.

NFL League Notes: New Orleans Linebacker Vilma, who fought suspension in court, got reinstated only to blow his knee. Out for six weeks minimum on the PUP list. Well played Dork....

TV Coverage: I live in a Time-Warner Cable franchise city so no NFL Network, Redzone or GamePass for me. Dish and Direct systems are not allowed in my condo complex sooo..... There are two options.
Pay $250 for the Direct GamePass for computer/tablet/smartphone access.
ESPN and NFL Fantasy Football Centers, Smartphone apps and my DVR. FREE!!!!!! The only thing missing is NFL Redzone but the Fantasy Centers pop up big plays involving my weekly picks. Sweet....

Tim Tebow Notes: Ryan, Sanchez and Tebow may have pulled one of the biggest cons in the history of sports this pre-season making the Jets Offense look ineffectual in practice and meaningless games. However, they opened against the Bills, which are almost an auto-Win, blowing their secret and succeeding in pissing off half the Fantasy Football world. Other than that Tebow-mania managed to play some decent football.

Closing thoughts, there are several other great "Iron Man" Utility players in the NFL trapped in the QB position. Why not allow us to start them as a "Utility Player"?

Tim Tebow "Have Gun, Will Travel"

Palladin, "Have Helmet, will Travel"
RUN TIM RUN!!!!!!!!
According to Yahoo Sports writer Eric Adelson we can all expect Tim Tebow to be the New York Jets starting QB. Sometime this season he believes that the young and inexperienced offense under Mark Sanchez to break down. Through no fault of his own Mark Sanchez will be shown the bench by mid-season in favor of Tebow's "Ball Control" ground and pound game. The Jets have a world class defense built by its Head Coach, a recognized NFL defensive genius. But with a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback in Sanchez leading an Arena league offense the Jets are doomed to a season of blown routes, dropped passes, and triple digit turnovers.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--supporting-cast-could-doom-jets-qb-mark-sanchez-in-effort-to-hold-off-tim-tebow.html

Tebow was acquired specifically for this type of situation. Rex Ryan sees "Tebow-Time" as the one thing that Mark Sanchez seriously lacks. It is that time during a football game when the whole thing is resting on your shoulders. The team needs not just a first down but a miracle made with feet, presence and a hunger to win. When QBRs don't mean a squat it is the "Intangibles" Tebow brings to the field that gets teams to the playoffs. If you pay close attention to the camp reports you see that Sanchez is more of a leader than ever before, he is snappier during drills and trying like hell to out sprint Tebow during post-practice gassers. Tebow is making him better by just applying honest "Pressure" through hard work and discipline.

Tebow will never come out and say he wants to kick Sanchez out of the starting job but you know the hunger is there. I really don't know the future for Tim but I do believe he will not be a lifetime Jet. My gut tells me he will spend the next 10-15 years as the NFL's traveling "Palladin". Pressuring under performing franchises into greatness with a shot of honest love for the game, will power, and a dash of "Tebow-Time". Experts and purists will hate Tim his entire career because despite everything he scores, leads, raises teams up and gives them the opportunity to be exciting and that sells tickets. Owners love full stadiums and secretly coaches love having a gigantic 12 year old kid full of talent and lots of heart who just want to play football.

What is Tim's next stop? Cleveland, Miami, Minnesota........

Just how badly will the Jets use Tim Tebow?

My Turn, No My Turn, Wait Your Turn, It Is My Turn.....
“Whatever I’m asked to do,” ,,,, “I’m going to do it.” said Tim Tebow in training camp.

Realistically, Rex Ryan has said the Jets will be using Tebow as a "Football Player" for 20-30 plays per game. Listed as the back up QB that means Tim Tebow will be leading a "Wildcat Offense" for up to 50% of the offensive plays from scrimmage. What is particularly scary for Mark Sanchez, Jets #1 QB, is that his head coach has lost confidence in his ability to score in the Red Zone and 3rd down situations. This are scenarios that Tebow is well suited as a natural leader, motivator and all around athlete.

While it might be a good patch for the Jets offense this season it is not the ideal situation for the franchise, or Quarterbacks, long term. If Sanchez is ever going to break out and become the Hall of Fame caliber QB his talent and skill suggest then he needs a "Tebow Time" wake up call. Rex should man up and tell him he sucks as a leader and help him earn the trust of the team. Tebow is such a nice guy he won't go for the jugular to finish off Sanchez and move up. The fans have already left Sanchez and thrown all in with "Tebow-mania" or at least "Next QB-mania". Finally the team. In order to succeed this season the have two strategic choices. Split practice time and reps, or, divide the offense into two packages and practice separately together......

Any one who has ever played team sports knows there can be only one field general calling the plays and leading the team. Either option kills Sanchez as a future franchise QB since Tebow will get the Red Zone reps and hero points from the fans. The players may all understand Sanchez got them to the 16 yard line but Tebow will get the TD stat. In football grace under pressure is a learned trait that can only develop under fire and intense pressure on a world wide stage with 80,000 fans screaming their heads off. That is what Mark desperately needs from Rex Ryan but he won't get that now. Sanchez should have said "Play Me or Trade Me."

What about Tebow? Everyone knows Tim Tebow has a limited NFL QB skill set but is an outstanding all
around football player with the manners of Mother Theresa and the fire in the belly leadership style of General Patton. With Tebow as a starting QB the Jets will score based on the force of Tebow's will and they would more than likely make the playoffs. But no further, post season defenses are so finely tuned the Tebow led Jets would suffer an embarrassment not unlike Denvers loss last season to the Patriots. Tim Tebow, if properly developed and mentored, will be a great journeyman QB and give a team 5-7 years of playoff appearances. The problem is he will not get that development in New York. The Jets have to win right now in order to cash in on the expensive free agent WR/TE corps they signed. So Tebow gets the "Red Zone"/ Band Aid role.

Someone in the NFL Chairman's office should swoop in and find a reason to send Rex Ryan fishing with Sean Payton this season. Just to save the careers of two potentially great Quarterbacks.

Eli Manning on Saturday Night Live

Eli Manning held his own on Saturday Night Live. While not quite getting a bit like his brother Peyton's satire of the NFL kids program the youngest Manning brother can add three classic SNL skits to his collection of two Super Bowl Trophies and MVP awards.

Trick Shot Quarterback now a Buffalo Bill

Monmouth University quarterback Alex Tanney can hit the either side of a goalpost from 50 yards away throwing from his knees and complete to a receiver in the bed of a truck speeding away. Undrafted Tanney will stand behind two seventh round QBs but work for the best development coach in the NFL.
Is he ready to back up the Bills Harvard grad phenom Ryan Fitzpatrick?
Can you see Tanney as a special teams option popping 2 point conversions to tight ends?
First Tim Tebow now Alex Tanney, the NFL has gone gimmick crazy, but these guys are straight up winners.

Men fail to make NFL Cheerleader Squads

An NFL Cheerleader's fans worst nightmare
NFL fans in Houston and Denver dodged a couple of "smallish" torpedoes after two men entered into the open cheerleader tryouts. The Broncos and Texans cheer squads, along with most of the other NFL franchises, annually host highly competitive open tryouts for their few open positions. Joining the recent rash of party crashing traditionally female only events the two men, whom I chose not to name, told the Yahoo reporter that they were primarily interested in the attention. They both mentioned "Being the first male cheerleader in the NFL".

What the two morons failed to realize is the Baltimore Ravens already have male cheerleaders.

Basketball is a Big Deal in Kentucky

By Jared Dyer

The University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky are arch rivals in basketball and both colleges are both in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Louisville and Lexington are the first and second largest cities in the state of Kentucky. These two cities are also home to the first and second largest colleges in the state. The UK Wildcats have called Lexington, KY home for a very long time. The school was founded way back in 1865.

The University of Kentucky has had a lot of high profile coaches. Adolph Rupp was a long time coach at Kentucky and is one of the most successful college basketball coaches to ever live. Rupp is a hall of fame coach who won four national titles at Kentucky. Several decades later Rick Pitino coach at Kentucky before eventually moving to his current position at the University of Louisville.

Before Rick Pitino went to Louisville the Kentucky Wildcats were by far the most dominant college

Greatest Draft Choices By The Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are one of the more historic teams in the league. Indianapolis was set up in 1953 as the Baltimore Colts and transferred to Indianapolis in 1983. While in Baltimore the team took home four NFL Titles and since moving to Indianapolis the team captured Super Bowl XLI in Miami in 2007 (check our Super Bowl predictions to see who the favorite is this year). There were a number of good players selected by the Indianapolis Colts. The best players selected by the Indianapolis Colts are Marvin Harrison, Raymond Berry and Peyton Manning.

No. 3: Marvin Harrison, WR, (1996 - 2008)
